CHARLOTTE, NC — Wednesday, Dec. 19, and Wednesday, Jan. 2, will remain teacher workdays for most CMS schools as designated in the 2018-2019 CMS Calendar. Dec. 19 and Jan. 2 will not be used as student makeup days for most CMS schools.
Albemarle Road Middle School, Carmel Middle School, and the Governor’s Village STEM Academy will use Wednesday, Dec. 19 as a makeup day for students and staff due to an additional day of closure.
Carmel Middle was closed on Sept. 18 and Albemarle Road Middle was closed on Oct. 24 because of weather-related power outages. The Governor’s Village was closed on Nov. 15 due to a ceiling pipe burst that caused heating loss and flooding.
Schools and school buses for Carmel Middle Albemarle Road Middle and the Governor’s Village schools will operate on their normal schedules, and students and staff should report at their normal time on Wednesday, Dec. 19.
“We are mindful that the winter season is ahead of us and that we may face challenges related to weather in the coming months. We will continue to make decisions that put the safety of students, families and staff as the top priority,” said Dr. Clayton Wilcox, CMS Superintendent.
CMS will update students, families, staff and the community as further calendar decisions are made during the 2018-2019 school year.
