Lincoln County Schools Elementary Principal Accused Of Assault On Student

LINCOLNTON, N.C. – A Lincoln County Schools elementary school principal has been arrested after deputies say he assaulted a student in November.

Deputies with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office say 43-year-old Patrick Mitchell Nelson assaulted a student at Union Elementary School on Nov. 27.

During the investigation, deputies learned that while addressing behavior concerns with the student in the principal’s office, the student fled the office and took off into the hallway. The principal grabbed the student by the back of the shirt collar, causing the student to fall on the floor.

The student was then dragged back into the principal’s office doorway.

Mitchell was arrested on a misdemeanor assault charge on a child under 12-years-old. He was taken before a Lincoln County magistrate on Tuesday and given a $500 unsecured bond.
