CMPD Makes Third Arrest In University City Murder

Khalil Dante Capers, 23, is charged with Murder and Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent To Kill.

A second suspect has been charged with the murder of 21-year-old Javon Daniel Alim Sherwood who was shot and killed at an apartment complex in the University area on Saturday.
Officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department have arrested 18-year-old Keith Bryson Powell and charged him with murder and felonious restraint. He was then transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County jail.

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit have charged Yacouba Meite with the murder of Javon Sherwood.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has identified the man who was shot and killed in the University area Saturday night.
CMPD officers found Javon Daniel Alim Sherwood, 21, suffering from a gunshot wound in a parking lot of an apartment complex in the 8700 block of Autumn Lake Court at about 7:20 p.m. on Saturday.
Sherwood was pronounced dead at the scene.
The case is still under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call 704-432-TIPS and speak directly to a Homicide Unit Detective. Detective Clayton is the lead detective assigned to the case. The public can also call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
