CHARLOTTE, NC – An attorney for the man at the center of an investigation into alleged election fraud and voting irregularities in North Carolina’s 9th District has released a statement.
The statement sent to WCCB by the Law Office of Cynthia Adams Singletary is the first time Dowless has addressed the public or media.
In the statement, Singletary calls Dowless a “highly respected member of our community who is routinely sought after for his campaign expertise.” The statement continues, ” He has not violated any state or federal campaign laws and current ongoing investigations will prove the same.”
Dowless is being criminally investigated by the Wake County District Attoney’s office for his dealings in the 2018 District 9 republican primary as well as the general election.
According to sworn affidavits, witnesses say Dowless paid them to collect absentee ballots in Bladen county, which is illegal under North Carolina Law.
The State Board of Elections has failed to certify the results of the 9th District race between Mark Harris and Dan McCready. A evidentiary hearing is set for January 11th.
