Shoppers Rushing To Malls To Snag More Deals And Return Gifts
CHARLOTTE, NC. — The week after Christmas has shoppers everywhere rushing to malls to snag more deals and return those unwanted holiday gifts. UPS says 75% of American consumers will end up returning some gifts this year.
A sea of shoppers filled every inch of SouthPark mall Thursday, with shopping bags, gift cards and receipts in tow.
According to the National Retail Federation, more than 68% of holiday shoppers plan to continue browsing and buying in the week after December 25.
27% of holiday shoppers also plan to use the week after Christmas to use their gift cards. Sara Chapman’s kids couldn’t wait another second to spend their gift cards.
“My kids got gift cards from their grandmother, so we are spending it right away,” says Chapman.
Others, like Judy Galbreath, using her time at the mall for returns. Upwards of 10% of the merchandise purchased this holiday season will be sent back in returns.
“Fast paced, a lot of energy. You can feel people have a sense of purpose trying to return those goodies,” says Galbreath.
