CHARLOTTE, N.C. — People all over the country are remembering the life and legacy of civil rights icon Dr. Martin Luther King Junior.
In celebration, the city of Charlotte has all kinds of events planned for today, Monday Jan. 21.
The Queen City will award a citizen with the Dr. King Medallion Award based on how well he or she exemplifies the ideas of Dr. King. That event will be held at the Halton Theater at 10 a.m.
The Gantt Center is hosting a day of celebration with film screenings and guided tours for free.
People can also tour the Levine Museum of the New South for free.
And tonight, Opera Carolina has a free art and music celebration at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church starting at 7 p.m.
