Driver Pleads Guilty In 2018 Single Car Accident That Killed Passenger In South Charlotte

The Latest:

Officials say Matthew Harvie has pleaded guilty to Felony Death by Vehicle in connection to the 2018 death of 33-year-old Mary Brooks.

Harvie was sentenced to 51-74 months in prison, but court officials say that sentence was suspended “pending his successful completion of 36 months of supervised probation.”

As part of that probation, Harvie is required to serve 120 days in prison.

Update (Feb. 21, 2018):

A man has been charged in connection with a wreck that killed a woman in south Charlotte Sunday morning.

Medic pronounced Mary Stephens Brooks, 33, dead at the scene after the 2006 Acura being driven by Matthew Michael Harvie ran off the road and struck four trees on eastbound Runnymede Lane just past Barclay Downs Drive.

Matthew Harvie has been charged with Felony Death by Vehicle, Driving While Impaired, and Reckless Driving.

Police say Harvie was speeding and lost control of the vehicle in a curve before Barclay Downs Drive.  The vehicle hit a tree before being split apart and striking three more trees.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. –One person is dead following a single-car accident in south Charlotte, early Sunday morning.

The CMPD says one female victim died in the accident, which happened around 1:22 a.m. on Runnymede Lane near Barclay Downs Drive.
