LANCASTER, S.C. — Police have arrested a teen in connection to a shooting that seriously injured another teen Saturday night.
Authorities responded to a shooting incident in the 400 block of North French Street at about 9:07 p.m. on January 26th, 2019.
Officers located several unaccompanied minors and one teenage victim suffering from a gunshot wound inside the home.
EMS treated the victim at the scene and later airlifted her to an area medical center by helicopter. Police say she is in serious but stable condition.
Investigators say they first thought the shooting was the result of negligence, but later determined it was an intentional act committed by 16-year-old Draevious Jakeim Mingo of Rock Hill.
Mingo was located at his home in Rock Hill and taken to the Lancaster Municipal Justice Center. He was charged as an adult with Attempted Murder and Use of a Firearm During the Commission of a Violent Crime.
Chief T.S. Grant says, “Investigators have to base their actions on facts, when those facts don’t add up, it is incumbent upon them to ask why and get to the truth. Hats off to the investigators who followed their instincts and finally uncovered the truth concerning this incident. We wish the victim in this case the very best as she continues along her path to recovery. We appreciate the assistance of Rock Hill P.D. in locating Mingo for us so quickly.”
Draevious Mingo is currently in the custody of the Department of Juvenile Justice, in Columbia, South Carolina.
