State prosecutors say they will not seek the death penalty for Jerry Woods, 60, in relation to the deadly Christmas Eve stabbing of 33-year-old Octavia Beaty.
Woods, who was previously convicted of second-degree Murder in 1982 and served more than 30 years in prison, is accused of stabbing Beaty during a domestic-related incident on Christmas Eve 2018. Beaty was taken to the hospital but later died from her injuries.
The investigation into this case is ongoing.

HICKORY, N.C. — A woman was stabbed to death on Christmas Eve in Hickory.
Around 12:30 a.m. on Monday, officers with the Hickory Police Department were called to 98 3rd Avenue where they found 33-year-old Octavia Beaty suffering from a stab wound.
Beaty was transported by Catawba County EMS to Frye Regional Medical Center where she later died.
Police have charged 60-year-old Jerry Woods with murder in the stabbing death of Beaty.
Woods was arrested and served with an outstanding warrant for murder. He is currently being held in the Catawba County Detention Facility with no bond.
Officials say the stabbing appears to be a domestic-related incident.
