Judge Sentences Morganton Man Who Pleaded Guilty To 2017 Deadly Stabbing

63-year-old Gerald Buff was sentenced to 14-18 years in prison on Monday after pleading guilty to second-degree Murder.

On October 6, 2017, authorities say Buff stabbed 49-year-old Jimmy Causby to death outside of his home. Causby pulled into the driveway and was getting out of his car when witnesses say Buff came outside and began stabbing him.

The incident was said to be over a stolen welder.

Investigators say Causby was stabbed multiple times, even as he tried to escape.

BURKE COUNTY, N.C. — A man has been charged with murder after another man was found stabbed to death in Burke County.

Police say Gerald Dean Buff, 61, has been charged with murdering Jimmy Ray Causby.

Authorities responded to reports of a stabbing at 4459 Bill Epley Avenue in Morganton and found Causby suffering from stab wounds.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation led to Buff’s residence at 4441 Bill Epley Avenue in Morganton, as the location of the stabbing.

Investigators conducted interviews and secured a search warrant, before arresting Buff for the murder of Causby.

The investigation is ongoing.
