LINCOLNTON, NC — An Iredell County business owner held a man at gunpoint until deputies could arrive after he reportedly caught the man stealing tools Thursday afternoon.
Stan Cronland says he was pulling into his business, Cronland Lumber Yard on Highway 73, when he noticed a suspicious white pickup truck parked beside one of his buildings. The vehicle tried to leave when Cronland arrived, so deputies say he raced over to block the exit and pulled his gun.
The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office says Cronland then held 32-year-old Matthew Hulett at gunpoint until deputies could arrive. Hulett reportedly confessed to taking a load of tools from the building and begged Cronland not to call authorities.
Deputies say the stolen tools were valued at more than $3,000.
Hulett is charged with one felony count of each of Breaking and Entering a Building, Larceny after Breaking and Entering and Possession of Stolen Goods.
