Two Suspects Charged After Attempted Armed Robbery Overnight Sunday

CHARLOTTE, NC — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police have charged two suspects in connection to an attempted armed robbery shortly after midnight Sunday.

The crime was reported around 12:10am on Old Audrey Kell Road. The victim told police she was injured after an altercation with Javon Turner, 26, and Roderia Kelly, 22.

Police say the victim had arranged to meet the suspects for a business transaction but the deal went bad. Turner reportedly asked to use the victim’s phone but when she refused, Turner allegedly tried to take the phone and then hit the victim in the back of the head.

According to the victim, Turner then pulled a knife and demanded the phone and money.

Kelly and Turner left the area in a white BMW, police say, and were spotted nearby. The suspects led police on a vehicle chase that ended on Arrowood Road at I-77.

Police say Turner tried to run on foot but was quickly apprehended. Kelly was also taken into custody at that time.

Turner is charged with Attempted Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon, Assault on a Female, and Resist/Delay/Obstruct a Law Enforcement Officer.

Kelly is charged with No Operator’s License, Displaying an Expired Registration Number Plate, and Operating a Motor Vehicle while Fleeing to Elude a Law Enforcement Officer.
