Final Preparations for NBA All Star Weekend

CHARLOTTE, NC -The final preparations for NBA All-Star weekend were well underway throughout Charlotte on Wednesday.

Hundreds of workers at multiple venues are readying for tens of thousands of people.

“We know its going to be wild. it’s going to be a lot of fun,” said Fernando Perez of Small Bar in the NC Music Factory.

He says it has been a hectic week of All-Star preparations.

“We’re not completely lost as far as what to do, but this is by far the biggest event,” said Perez.

Dozens of events will be held at the Music Factory in addition to concerts. Crews are building an outdoor basketball court and the set of Inside the NBA TV show.

Inside Bojangles Coliseum, there is controlled chaos as crews try to beat the buzzer. Banners are pressed into place. On Wednesday workers conducted sound checks and rehearsals.

Charlotte Emergency Services is also preparing for the nearly 300 All Star related events throughout the city.

“We’ve been preparing for this event for years,” said Lt. Brad Koch with CMPD.

Police will have all officers on duty, while the fire department is keeping a close watch on the venues.

“We have 40 inspectors that will be on duty this weekend that are going to be out and about,” said Battalion Chief Matt Westover.

Medic says they’ll have a mobile command unit set up in Uptown ready to deploy at a moments notice.
