Man Charged In Attempted Kidnapping Of Woman Getting Off CATS Bus

CMPD detectives have arrested the man wanted for assaulting, and attempting to kidnap, a woman after she exited a CATS bus in south Charlotte Tuesday afternoon.
The CMPD says G4S Police arrested 53-year-old Kelvin Jefferey Jones for an unrelated case and recognized him from photographs detectives had previously circulated.
Following an interview with Sexual Assault Detectives, Jones was charged with First Degree Kidnapping and Assault with a Deadly Weapon Inflicting Serious Injury.
Police say the woman fought back by using a stun gun on Jones. She was able to escape but she received a laceration to her cheek during the struggle.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police are investigating after a woman narrowly escaped a kidnapping attempt after she got off a CATS bus in south Charlotte.
These photos were released Tuesday afternoon showing someone police are calling a “person of interest” in relation to the attack.
Officers responded to South Boulevard near Sterling Elementary School around 7:30pm on February 17th and found a 23-year-old woman who had a cut on her face.
The initial investigation revealed that the woman had just got off a CATS bus when she was approached from behind by an unknown man who was armed with a knife. The suspect is accused of grabbing the woman and then ordering her to go with him.
Police say the woman fought back by using a stun gun on the suspect. She was able to escape but she received a laceration to her cheek during the struggle, according to a news release.
The suspect is described as a dark-skinned black male in his 40’s with a muscular build and a grey goatee beard. He was reportedly wearing a blue hoodie, dark pants, boots and a grey toboggan.
