Candidates Circle In On 9th District Race In Wake Of Possible Fraud

UNION COUNTY, NC — President Donald Trump weighed in on possible election fraud in North Carolina’s 9th district race.

“I condemn all of it, and that includes North Carolina, if anything, I guess they’re going to be doing a final report. But any form of election fraud, I condemn,” said President Trump.

The Wake County District Attorney is investigating to confirm fraud in the Mark Harris campaign.

Thursday, the North Carolina Board of Elections ruled there should be a new election in that district.

It has not set a date at this time.

We expect to find out which candidates will go after the congressional seat in the new election next week.

Democrat Dan McCready announced Friday that he will run again.

“What we saw this week in the hearing was a culture of corruption,” said McCready.

His opponent Mark Harris led the first election by about 900 votes.

“There’s a lot of people who have had their confidence shaken because of the fraud conducted by Mark Harris’ campaign,” said McCready.
Harris hired McCrae Dowless.

Dowless is accused of running an illegal absentee ballot collection operation in Bladen County.

Harris says he had no idea.

“It’s going to take a different kind of candidate to be able to then face McCready in the general election and win,” said Matthew Ridenhour.

The former Republican Mecklenburg County Commissioner says he plans to decide midweek next week on whether to run for the congressional seat.

“I hope that we as Republicans don’t get caught up in a primary fight with three, four, five different people or more all raising money, all trying to outspend the other person, weakening themselves as a candidate, both financially and taking hits from other candidates,” said Ridenhour.

If Harris decides to run, McCready says, “He is going to have to ask forgiveness from the voters.”
