CATS Ending Free Rides For Federal Employees

The Latest:

Effective Saturday, February 23rd, the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) says they will no longer be offering free rides to federal employees.

The move comes after the federal government reopened several weeks ago following a month long shutdown in December and January.

CATS had previously offered the rides to help federal workers impacted by the historic shutdown.

Original Story (Jan. 26, 2019):

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte Area Transit System will provide free rides on all CATS services to federal government employees beginning today, Jan. 26, until further notice.

“Though the federal government has reopened temporarily, CATS still wants to help federal employees as they begin the process of returning to their normal lives,” said CATS CEO John Lewis.

Employees are asked to show their official federal employee ID when they board a CATS bus or are asked to show their pass during fare checks on LYNX trains.
