GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — A hiker was seriously injured following a fall from a trail at Crowder’s Mountain Friday morning.
At about 7:57 a.m., on Friday morning, the Gastonia Fire Department responded to reports of a fall on the backside trail at Crowder’s Mountain.
Officials say two climbers were hiking up the trail and taking pictures near the lookout, which is also known as the “climbing wall” of the mountain, when one of the climbers lost balance, and fell approximately 70 feet down the wall.
A witness saw the fall and called 911.
Rescuers had to carry the climber 100 feet up the side of the climbing wall, and then 400 yards down the mountain, where Gaston Emergency Medical Services personnel transported the climber to Caromont Regional Medical Center with life threatening injuries.
