Original Story (March 5, 2016):
SALISBURY, NC — Salisbury Police are investigating a dog attack that left a 6-month-old baby dead Tuesday afternoon.
The incident happened around 2:30pm at a home on Wilson Road. Authorities say the infant was at the home of a baby sitter when the attack happened.
According to reports, the baby sitter sat 6-month-old Jacari Long down in the living room while she went outside to clean her car for them to leave. While outside, police say the baby sitter heard her mother scream inside and found that Long had been attacked by her pet boxer/pit bull mix dog.
Long was taken to Novant, and then airlifted to NC Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem for treatment. He later died from injuries.
Police say the dog has been taken by Rowan County Animal Control. The investigation is ongoing.
The family has set up a GoFundMe to cover funeral expenses.
