CHARLOTTE, NC — The American Diabetes Association (ADA) and National Father’s Day Council have announced this year’s recipients of the Father of the Year Awards to be presented this summer in Uptown.
The honorees were recognized during a kick-off dinner Monday night at the Duke Mansion in south Charlotte. The event was emceed by WCCB News Rising Co-Host Derek James and included speakers from the American Diabetes Association, as well as past recipients of the award.
The 2019 Fathers of the Year are (in no particular order):
- Randy Gartz, Managing Director of Technology, Recruiting and Consulting at Fairview Search Group
- Dwight Gibson, President of Food and Beverage SPX Flow, Inc.
- Steve Boland, Managing Director and Head of Consumer Lending at Bank of America

According to the ADA’s website, the award recognizes men who have made their families a priority, while balancing demanding careers and acting as outstanding community leaders. The recipients are chosen based on role model characteristics recognized by their peers and family members, according to the organization, and not for their specific career-related accomplishments.
Between now and June, each honoree will help sell tickets, tables and ads to raise money in support of the American Diabetes Association’s mission to prevent and cure diabetes, as well as improve the lives of those impacted by diabetes.
The awards will be presented to each of this year’s recipients during the 19th annual awards dinner, which will be held on June 21st in Uptown Charlotte.
Stay with WCCB Charlotte throughout the coming months for continuing coverage of this year’s journey to the awards presentation later this summer.
