Police Identify Body Found By Road In Matthews

Authorities have identified a body found in Matthews last week.
The decedent has been identified as 46-year-old Shawn Antonio Horton. Detectives say several helpful tips from the public helped them identify Mr. Horton.
Police are again asking the public for help as they attempt to determine the events which preceded Mr. Horton’s Death.
Mr. Horton was known to wear a unique multicolored, hooded coat and ride a purple and silver Huffy Stone Mountain bicycle in the Stallings, Matthews, and Charlotte areas.
Detectives are asking anyone who may have seen Mr. Horton in the last several weeks to contact the Matthews Police Department at 704-847-5555.

MATTHEWS, NC — Matthews Police say a roadside cleanup crew found decomposing remains of an adult male Friday morning.
The body was reportedly found down an embankment along side E. John Street near I-485. Police say a worker was doing roadside cleanup when the discovery was made.
Investigators say the body appears to be that of an adult white male, but at this time they have not established a cause of death or identification. The body does appear to have been there for several weeks, officials say, based on the amount of decomposition.
The Mecklenburg County Medical Examiner is assisting with the investigation.
Police say person was wearing light brown work boots, blue jeans and a multi-colored coat with a distinctive print (pictured below). A damaged bicycle was also found nearby, according to officials, and is described as a purple and silver colored Huffy.
