Lancaster Man Arrested For Shooting Into Kershaw Home Thursday Morning

KERSHAW, SC — Lancaster County Sheriff’s deputies have charged a man accused of shooting into a home Thursday morning and forcing several area schools to go on lock down.

Deputies say Leonard Asante Shropshire, Jr., 21, fired multiple shots into a home on Belvedere Drive a little before 9am. A woman inside the home told deputies Shropshire texted her before the shooting asking if he could come retrieve some personal items.

Deputies say the woman refused and Shropshire arrived minutes later.

According to reports, the woman and three other people were inside the home at the time of the incident. A man inside fired several shots back at Shropshire, deputies say, but no one was hit or injured.

Shropshire was eventually located on a relative’s porch on Parkman Avenue in Lancaster, and reportedly tried to run before being taken into custody.

Deputies say they did recover a 9mm pistol at the time of Shropshire’s arrest that is believed to have been used in the shooting. The pistol was reported stolen a few days earlier.

Shropshire is charged with four counts of Attempted Murder, Possession of a Firearm during Commission of a Violent Crime and Possession of a Stolen Pistol.
