LINCOLNTON, N.C. — A Gaston County man has been charged and arrested in connection with a false bomb threat against the business where he worked in Lincoln County.
Travis Chambers, 31, of Gastonia, has been charged with one felony count of reporting a false bomb threat at Crate and Barrel on Lincoln County Parkway Extension in the Lincoln County Industrial Park.
Chambers reportedly called 911 just after 9am on March 14, 2019 and made a bomb threat, according to a news release. Officials immediately evacuated the business. Authorities say they searched the building but nothing out of the ordinary was found inside the plant.
Lincoln County Sheriff’s detectives determined the phone could only call 911 and contacted AT&T because they owned the tower where the 911 call was transmitted. AT&T was able to provide detectives with an identifying number for the device that made the call. They were also able to determine the device was formally under a T-Mobile contract.
T-Mobile told authorities Chambers was the last paying customer to use the device, according to a news release.
Detectives confirmed Chambers was an employee of Crate and Barrel and say the number provided by T-Mobile was the same number as the one in his employee file.
Chambers was taken to the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center placed under a $2,000 secured bond.
Detectives are investigating two previous bomb threat calls that were made to Crate and Barrel in September of 2018 and January of 2019. More charges could be pending.
