HICKORY, N.C. –A Catawba County man has been charged with peeping after police say he placed a recording device in the tanning area of a Hickory Planet Fitness.
On Tuesday, March 12, 2019, police in Hickory say a victim reported finding a recording device inside of the tanning area of the Planet Fitness located at 944 2nd Street NE.
Investigators identified 50-year-old Darren Rodney Astles, of Sherrills Ford, as the owner of the device.

Astles was arrested on March 19, 2019, and charged with Peeping Using a Photographic Imaging Device and Possession of Photographic Image Obtained from Peeping. He received a $12,000 secured bond.
