CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A woman has been charged after police say she ran from an accident that killed a motorcyclist in west Charlotte Friday night.
On Friday, March 22nd, 2019, at about 11:00 p.m., Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department officers responded to a wreck in the 2200 block of West Boulevard.
Arriving officers located a motorcyclist lying in the road with serious injuries and an unoccupied Ford Fusion, which had been involved in the crash.
MEDIC pronounced the motorcyclist, 40-year-old Daryl Lamont Miller, dead at the scene.
Police say the driver of the Ford Fusion, 49- year-old Vonda Patterson Steward, fled from the scene on foot. Detectives were able to identify and contact Ms. Steward on Sunday, March 24th, and she voluntarily turned herself in to authorities.
Steward is charged with Felony Hit and Run, Misdemeanor Death by Vehicle, Driving While License Revoked, Registration Violation, Inspection Violation and Safe Movement Violation.
Investigators determined that Daryl Miller was operating a motorcycle East on West Boulevared at a speed above the posted limit when Ms. Steward attempted to make a left turn into the parking lot at 2215 West Boulevard. Mr. Miller’s motorcycle collided with the front right corner of Ms. Steward’s Ford Fusion, throwing Mr. Miller from the motorcycle.
