Four Shootings in Charlotte Neighborhoods in 15 Minutes

CHARLOTTE, NC –  Homes and cars riddled with bullets early Tuesday morning in North and Northwest Charlotte after four shootings within 15 minutes of one another.

“I heard a big whoo whoo whoo and then maybe about 3 or 4 more after that,” said John Quin describing the sound of gunshots along his street.

Quin and his dog were woken up by the gunshots.

“What the hell was that? It sounded like it was right beside the house right here,” said Quin.

Several cars and three homes were hit by dozens of bullets fired on Esmeralda drive.

“It’s real scary for that to happen in this neighborhood,” said a woman who didn’t want to be identified, “stuff like that don’t happen down this street.”

The first shooting happened on Enoch Dr. at 12:47 a.m. Five minutes later, more shots were fired on Bradford drive. Bullets hit one person who survived. At 12:59 a.m. more gunfire on Thriftwood Dr. And at 1:02 a.m. The shooting on Esmeralda Dr. happened.

A 71 year old woman was shot in the arm and taken to the hospital. Police say all four shootings are connected.

“I felt safe moving here until I hearing this,” said the woman who lives nearby.

The string of shootings follows a troubling trend of group violence in the first few months of 2019. Kendal Crank, a mother of two, was caught in the crossfire on North Tryon street last month. Two groups of people shot at one another. Three people have been charged in her death.

As police search for the most recent shooting suspects, people living on Esmeralda Dr. are hoping the violence will calm down.

“Don’t need to be nowhere really, but definitely not right down the street,” said Quin.
