Gaston County Man Arrested Following Standoff With Police

GASTON COUNTY, N.C. —  A Gaston County man has been arrested and charged with multiple offenses following a standoff with police Monday.

Christopher Donald Hibberts, 27, is charged with Second Degree Kidnapping, Break and Enter to Terrorize or Injure, Assault on a Female, Assault by Pointing a Gun, and Interfere with Emergency Communication.

Authorities initially filed charges on April 11th, 2019, following an investigation into a reported kidnapping and assault.

On Monday, April 23rd, 2019 law enforcement agencies tracked Hibberts to a residence in the 1700 block of Old Spencer Mountain Road in Dallas, North Carolina.

After being confronted by Gaston County Police K9 Officers, Hibberts barricaded himself inside the residence.  Hibberts refused to comply with police commands and the Gaston County Police Emergency Response Team responded to the scene.

Approximately five hours after the incident began, forceful entry was made and Hibberts was located in a hiding place and arrested without injury to him or officers.

Hibberts was taken to the Gaston County Jail where he is being held without bond.
