Hickory Man Arrested After Telling Authorities He Had AK-47, Grenades And Resisting Arrest In Alexander County

ALEXANDER COUNTY, N.C. — A Hickory man has been charged with impairment and resisting arrest following his refusal to comply with law enforcement commands after wrecking a vehicle in Alexander County.

On Sunday, April 21st, 2019,  Alexander County Sheriff’s Office deputies and troopers with the North Carolina Highway Patrol responded to a motor vehicle accident on Highway 127 at Telephone Exchange Road in the Bethlehem community.

Arriving officers located 33-year-old Michael Kennedy in the driver’s seat of the vehicle that had been involved in the accident.

Officials say Kennedy refused to show his hands to officers and stated that he had hand grenades and an AK-47 on his person.  After officers gave Kennedy multiple commands to exit the vehicle, he still refused before officers physically removed him from the vehicle.

Kennedy continued to arrest after being removed from the vehicle but was finally arrested and transported to the Alexander County Detention Center.

He was charged with Driving While Impaired-Drugs by the North Carolina Highway Patrol and Resisting Arrest by the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office.

He is being held under a $3,000 secured bond.
