Two Arrested After Woman Killed, Man Injured In East Charlotte Shooting Sunday

The Latest:

CHARLOTTE, NC — It’s been a deadly 24 hours in Charlotte. Two repeat offenders are charged in two of three murders. One of the latest victims is a young mother.

Shalecia Williams and a 29-year-old man were shot at the Heritage Park Apartments off Snow Lane around two in the afternoon on Sunday. CMPD has not released the man’s name. He’s expected to be okay.

A friend tells WCCB Williams and the man were dating. Williams is a mother of a one-year-old boy.

“There’s a lot of people that’s affected by this, you know what I mean, with this loss. The thing about it is to know how the loss took place, senseless,” says Williams’ Godmother, Kendra Young.

Williams is one of three murder victims within 12 hours on Sunday.

“We see too many times where people resort to firearms for violence to resolve what we learn during the investigations are fairly minor arguments or disagreements,” says CMPD Capt. Chris Dozier.

CMPD says it’s mostly young people doing the shootings and young people being killed.  Williams’ friends and family think the community needs step up to be part of the solution.

There’s been 43 homicides so far this year. Almost quadruple the amount we had this time last year.
