CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Detectives are investigating a homicide in uptown Charlotte after a woman was found stabbed to death Thursday morning.
According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, the woman was found on College Street around 7:46am underneath the Brookshire Boulevard overpass.
The victim was reportedly suffering from a stab wound and pronounced dead on the scene a short time later. She has been identified as 62-year-old Diane McLelland.
According to police, today was her birthday.
Police say they located the suspect, James William Curry, Jr., around 6pm on N. College Street and arrested him in connection to McLelland’s death.
Curry, 55, is charged with First Degree Murder. According to jail records, Curry was arrested in 2017 on charges of Assault with a Deadly Weapon Inflicting Serious Injury and again in 2018 for probation violation.
This is Charlotte’s 50th homicide in 2019.
