TEGA CAY, S.C. – On Saturday, June 29th the 809 Foundation will be holding their 2nd annual 809 Foundation Cornhole Tournament to raise funds for the foundation’s mission to provide assistance with substance abuse prevention and treatment; youth mentoring; and community unity.
The 809 Foundation was created in 2018 year as a legacy and memorial to Detective Michael R. Doty, a 12 year veteran with the York County Sheriff’s Department who was killed in the line of duty on January 17th, 2018. Officer Doty’s call sign was 809. Officer Doty was a man who cared about and was very involved in his community and the people in it. He was deeply involved in helping to alleviate the opioid crisis in the community. And even in death he was helping others as he was an organ donor.
