Bojangles’ Summer Shootout Kicks Off With The Media Mayhem School Bus Race At Charlotte Motor Speedway

CONCORD, NC — Local media personalities, including WCCB Sports Anchor and Reporter Zach Aldridge, took to the track Tuesday night at Charlotte Motor Speedway for the Media Mayhem School Bus Race presented by Lancaster BBQ.

The race is part of the Bojangles’ Summer Shootout, which features family-friendly entertainment and exciting short-track action. The fun kicks off in June with the Media Mayhem race and runs through July.

Participating in this year’s race were several area media personalities, including Zach Aldridge, WCCB, Al Conklin, WBTV, Courtney Davis, Spectrum News, Will Kunkel, WJZY, Andrew Perdue, WSOC, J.D. Stone, WROQ.

The six racers suited up and battled it out on the track in a no-holds-barred school bus grudge match.

In the end, and for the third straight year, WBTV Meteorologist Al Conklin claimed victory in the Media Mayhem race. It is his fifth win overall.

WCCB’s Zach Aldridge finished fifth, and says mechanical issues were to blame.

“My bus had a broken throttle cable that had to be fixed prior to the start. (My excuse for losing),” Aldridge says jokingly.

Despite the Tuesday’s loss, Aldridge says he will be back and ready to compete again in next year’s race.
