HUNTERSVILLE, NC — Police have identified the motorcyclist who was killed early Wednesday morning after colliding with an SUV in Huntersville. The driver of the SUV has been charged.
The accident happened around 6:00 a.m. at the intersection of McCoy and McIlwaine Road. Investigators say Vincent Aufiero, 57, was riding a 2006 Suzuki Boulevard C50 motorcycle when he crashed into a 2008 GMC SUV.
According to police, Elizabeth Hernandez, 43, was driving the SUV when she attempted to turn left off of eastbound McIlwain onto northbound McCoy.
Hernandez reportedly turned out in front of Aufiero, who was traveling southbound on McCoy, which resulted in the crash.
Aufiero was transported with life threatening injuries. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Hernandez was treated for non-life threatening injuries at a nearby hospital. Once she was released, police say they arrested and charged her with Misdemeanor Death by Motor Vehicle and No Operators License.
The investigation into this accident is ongoing.
