NEWTON, N.C. — A Belmont, North Carolina, woman has been sentenced to six to nine years in prison for assaulting another woman with a knife in May.
Catawba County Judge Nathaniel J. Poovey imposed the sentence on 25-year-old Katlyn Danielle Hendricks after Hendricks entered a guilty plea.
Hendricks was convicted of assault with a deadly weapon intent to kill on a woman, who she was doing drugs with on the evening of May 4th or early morning of May 5th, after they had a disagreement.
Officials say at some point Hendricks used an 18 inch blade to slice the neck of the 30-year-old victim.
In an interview with Catawba County investigators, Hendricks sated that she gave the victim a knife to defend herself before telling the victim that she was going to kill her before attacking her with the 18 inch blade.
Hendricks did not say why she attacked the woman. The victim was able to leave the scene of the incident after Hendricks lost consciousness.
Investigators say they found the victim went to a nearby home before receiving treatment from medical personnel. Catawba County deputies found Hendricks unconscious in the front seat of a vehicle a short distance away.
Authorities say she was already on probation for drug offenses at the time of the assault.
