5 Suspects Arrested After Armed Robbery, Standoff In North Charlotte
CHARLOTTE, NC — CMPD says five suspects were arrested Friday morning after an armed robbery and brief standoff with authorities in north Charlotte.
Around 5:30 a.m., police responded to an armed robbery call at a 7-Eleven on Old Concord Road. CMPD says a man and woman tried to rob the business at gunpoint before taking off on foot toward a nearby neighborhood.
The suspects were reportedly located at a home on Stourbridge Lion Drive. Police say they barricaded themselves inside, which resulted in a short standoff with officers and members of SWAT.
Residents of the neighborhood were evacuated as a precaution. No injuries were reported.
The suspects eventually surrendered to authorities and were taken into custody.
Zaire Witherspoon, 19, Kiyara Stevens, 16, Nathan Bellamy, 18, Paris Lee, 19, and Dontavia McMorris, 16, were each charged with Attempted Armed Robbery from a Business and Conspiracy to Commit Robbery from a Business.
