Lincoln County Deputy Recovering After Head On Collision

LINCOLNTON, NC — A Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputy is recovering after his patrol car crashed head on into another vehicle Wednesday afternoon.

The accident happened around 4:20 p.m. on E. NC Highway 27. Officials say Deputy Shannon Bridges was responding to a 911 hang up call when the accident occurred.

According to reports, Bridges was slowing his cruiser to turn into the driveway when he crashed head on with a Honda Odyssey van. Deputy Bridges provided aid to the driver of the van, officials say, until medic arrived on scene.

She was transported to Caromont Medical Center in Gastonia with leg injuries.

Officials say Deputy Bridges started complaining of chest pains and was transported to Atrium Health – Lincoln. Doctors reportedly discovered he had a lacerated artery and internal bleeding.

Bridges was airlifted to Atrium Health – Main in Charlotte and underwent a successful surgery. Officials say he is in the process of recovering.

The investigation is ongoing.
