CMS: Drugs Found On High School Campus During Tuesday’s Safety Screening

CHARLOTTE, NC — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools says no weapons were found during Tuesday’s safety screening at North Mecklenburg High School, but drugs were confiscated.

The screening took place Tuesday morning as part of CMS’s continued effort to keep students and staff safe during the summer months. North Mecklenburg High is currently serving as a summer school site for high school students from various schools throughout the district.

No weapons were found during the screening, officials say, but drugs were.

CMS officials say the students responsible will be disciplined according to the CMS Code of Student Conduct.

The following letter was sent to parents regarding today’s screening:

Hello Families,

This letter is to inform you that a safety screening was conducted today, July 8, 2019, at North Mecklenburg High School where your student is enrolled for summer school classes. Today’s screening was a precaution only – there was no threat or emergency. All students and staff at the school are safe. The district’s firearms detection, and substance detection k-9s were used during today’s screening. The k-9s never came into contact with any student during this process. No weapons were found during today’s safety screening, however, drugs were found and students in violation will be disciplined in accordance with the CMS Student Code of Conduct. Please talk to your students and remind them that weapons and drugs have no place at school.
