CHARLOTTE, NC — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools says mace was found Tuesday morning during a safety screening at South Mecklenburg High School.
No lethal weapons were found, officials say, but mace was located during the routine screening. CMS says the student will be disciplined in accordance to the district’s Code of Student Conduct.
The following message was sent to parents following the screening:
Hello Families,
This letter is to inform you that a safety screening was conducted today, July 16, 2019, at South Mecklenburg High School where your student is enrolled for summer school classes. Todayβs screening was a precaution only β there was no threat or emergency. All students and staff at the school are safe. The districtβs firearms detection k-9 was used during todayβs screening. The k-9 never came into contact with any student during this process. No weapons were found during todayβs safety screening. Please talk to your students and remind them that weapons and drugs have no place at school.
