World Cup Soccer Star Megan Rapinoe Celebrating In Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Tens of thousands of fans are expected in Uptown Charlotte this weekend to see U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team star, Megan Rapinoe. The House of Soccer is putting on a celebration here to celebrate the recent World Cup win. The fan fest will be at Romare Bearden Park Friday and Saturday ahead of the International Champions Cup game between Arsenal and ACF Fiorentina at Bank of America Stadium. Rapinoe is scheduled to appear at 2 PM Saturday.

“For her to be here in Charlotte says a lot,” said Charlotte Women’s Soccer League player, Brittany Downs. “Oh my gosh! It’s going to be amazing!” said Downs about the House of Soccer coming to Charlotte, which typically takes its celebration to bigger cities like New York or LA.

Downs was in France for the U.S. team’s World Cup win, “The amount of fans the United States had to support those women, and at times, people chanted, ‘Equal pay! Equal pay!’ So, it really said a lot.”
