CMPD Investigating After Traffic Stop Ends In Deadly West Charlotte Accident

CHARLOTTE, NC — Police are investigating after an accident in west Charlotte left one person dead and another injured Tuesday night.

The accident happened just after 11:30pm on Barringer Drive at Remount Road.

CMPD says officers had stopped a 2002 Buick Park Avenue on West Boulevard near I-77 prior to the crash. The car had no registration plate, according to police, and took off as the officer approached the vehicle on foot.

The suspect vehicle turned onto Barringer Drive at a high rate of speed, police say, and was found by the initial officer a short time later after it crashed in the front yard of a home.

Medic responded to the scene and transported the passenger, Nakearni Hudson, 23, to Atrium CMC with serious injuries. The driver, Tearinie Bush, 23, was pronounced dead on the scene.

Investigators say the vehicle crashed after losing control and hitting a pole and multiple trees. The driver was not wearing a seat belt, police say, and was thrown into the passenger side of the vehicle.

The passenger was seat belted.

Investigators say speed and alcohol are believed to have contributed to the accident. The investigation is ongoing.
