Several Honored After Saving Child’s Life At Monroe Aquatics And Fitness Center
MONROE, NC — Several Monroe Aquatics and Fitness Center lifeguards and members were honored during Tuesday’s City Council meeting for their life saving efforts involving a child last month.
Officials say 5-year-old Aaron Tanczos was swimming when he slipped under the water and lost consciousness on June 26th.
Tanczos had no heartbeat and was not breathing when Lori Mclellan, a MAFC member swimming nearby, quickly pulled him to the side of the pool.
MAFC lifeguards quickly responded and called for emergency assistance.
Lifeguard Kersten Prince began rescue breathing, officials say, while Heidi Jacobi, a former medic, began chest compressions. Lifeguards Jayce Briggs and Lucas Pascal also assisted.
Officials say Tanczos regained consciousness prior to the arrival of EMS crews thanks to the efforts of those involved.
“This was a life-changing event not only for Aaron and his parents, Melanie and Mate Tanczos, but also for everyone involved. We are proud of our well-trained and attentive staff at the Monroe Aquatics Center and thankful for the caring community members who all worked together to save Aaronβs life,” said Mayor Bobby Kilgore.
