HICKORY, NC — A Hickory area dog is safe after firefighters rescued the pooch Sunday afternoon from inside a burning home.
The fire was reported around 5:34pm at a home on 20th Avenue Drive NW. Multiple crews responded to the scene and found smoke and flames coming from the house.
Officials say firefighters found a dog trapped inside the home while crews were searching for occupants. The dog was rescued and treated with oxygen due to smoke inhalation.
No other occupants were found inside the home, and no other injuries were reported.
Officials say the home suffered major damages from the fire, which resulted from “disposal of smoking materials.” It has been ruled accidental.
