Suspect On Ankle Monitor Accused Of Breaking Into Apartments, Selling Stolen Items On OfferUp App
CHARLOTTE, NC — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police have charged two suspects in connection to several area break-ins and thefts.
Gianni Grant, 19, and Nasir Shariff, 20, have each been charged with multiple counts of Breaking and Entering, Larceny After Breaking and Entering and Possession of Stolen Property.
According to CMPD, Grant was wearing an ankle monitor when he broke into an apartment on July 19th and another on July 23rd.
The victim of the July 19th break-in reported that an Apple MacBook matching the one stolen from their apartment had been found on the OfferUp app. After identifying the seller as Grant, detectives say an ankle monitor he was wearing while on probation allowed them to place him at the victim’s apartment when the alleged break-in occurred.
While checking the monitor’s history, detectives say they were also able to place Grant in the area of another break-in that occurred on July 23rd. During this crime, CMPD says Grant and Shariff broke into an apartment through a ground floor window and stole several items.
Again, detectives say they found Grant had posted the items on his OfferUp account shortly after the crime.
Grant is charged with four counts of Breaking and Entering and Larceny After Breaking and Entering, and two counts of Possession of Stolen Property.
Shariff is charged with two counts of Breaking and Entering, Larceny After Breaking and Entering and Possession of Stolen Property.
Police say Grant and Shariff shared the same address and the stolen property was recovered following a search.
