Deputies: Man Shot By Father-In-Law, Woman Tased Following Domestic Disturbance In Monroe

MONROE, N.C. — A Monroe man was hospitalized following a series of events that ultimately ended with him being shot by his father-in-law and his wife being tased by deputies.

Deputies say they responded to a domestic disturbance on Clarksville Campground Road around 8:30pm Monday and found a man suffering from a gunshot wound.

Deputies say the man got into a fight with his wife so she reportedly left the home and went next door to her parent’s house.  Her husband is accused of kicking in the front door and demanding to see his wife.

Deputies say the man’s father-in-law got a handgun, confronted the man, and then fired a warning shot in the air in hopes of scaring him away.

The man then reportedly advanced towards his father-in-law, who in turn, fired additional shots which struck the man in the torso area, according to a news release.  The two reportedly struggled over the handgun which eventually fell to the floor.  Deputies say the man’s mother-in-law then picked up the gun and fired a shot towards the man.

Deputies say the man eventually left the house and was later found at his home next door.  He initially refused medical treated but was later transported to CMC-Main and remains in stable condition.

While on the scene, deputies say the man’s wife attempted to run back into the residence after threatening self-harm.  A deputy deployed a taser to prevent her from gaining access to a weapon and harming herself, according to a news release.

The woman was treated on the scene then taken to Atrium Union for further evaluation.  The case remains under investigation and no charges have been filed at this time.
