Medical Examiner Releases Cause Of Death For Mooresville Police Officer

The Latest:

The Mecklenburg County Medical Examiner’s Office has released the autopsy for Mooresville Police Officer Jordan Sheldon.

Sheldon was shot and killed while conducting a traffic stop on May 4th, 2019.

According to the Medical Examiner’s autopsy report, Officer Sheldon died from two close range gunshot wounds to the head.

Law enforcement officials and many others paid their respects to Officer Jordan Sheldon as his body was taken to Hartsell Funeral Home in Concord. Officer Sheldon was killed in the line of duty last weekend in Mooresville.

Funeral Arrangements:

The Mooresvile Police Department says funeral services for Officer Jordan Sheldon will be held on Friday, May 10th, 2019, at 11 a.m. at Calvary Church in Charlotte.

A procession of public safety vehicles will travel from the funeral home in Concord to the church in Charlotte for the service.  After the service, a procession will travel to the Mooresville Police Department where the procession will end.

Procession Details:

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department says drivers should expect delays tomorrow as part of the funeral procession scheduled for fallen Mooresville Police Officer Jordan Sheldon.

CMPD says the most significant delays will occur between 12:30pm and 2:30pm. Delays should be expected in the area of Calvary Church, on the I-485 outer loop from Rea Road toward University City to I-77 northbound, and then to Exit 33 in Mooresville.

Original Story:

MOORESVILLE, N.C. — A Mooresville police officer was shot and killed Saturday evening.  Officials say K9 Officer Jordan Harris Sheldon, 32, was shot just after 10pm during a routine traffic stop on West Plaza Drive.

Police say he was transported from the scene but later died from his injuries.  Sheldon served with the Mooresville Police Department for six years.

The suspect in the shooting fled the scene but was located in a nearby apartment, according to officials.  Once police entered the residence, they say the suspect was pronounced dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.  Police have not released the suspect’s name at this time.
