MONROE, NC — An accident involving five vehicles, including a tractor trailer truck Sunday afternoon has left one person dead.
The accident happened just after 1pm near the intersection of U.S. 74 and Stafford Street. Police say a Range Rover traveling east on U.S. 74 crossed the median and hit the trailer of a commercial truck. The Range Rover then collided with a Honda CRV and overturned.
Two passenger vans also collided, police say, while trying to avoid the accident.
Monroe Police say 30-year-old Megan Burnett of Jefferson, South Carolina was driving the Honda CRV, and died in the collision.
Another driver was transported to Atrium Health-Main with non-life threatening injuries.
Police say the accident is still under investigation, and no charges have been filed at this time.
