CHARLOTTE, NC — On Tuesday, officials with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Animal Care & Control addressed the urgent need for pet adoptions amid growing concerns over shelter capacity.
AC&C officials say the shelters are continuing to experience capacity issues despite the recent fee-waived adoption promotion for cats and dogs, which was held on Saturday. The event was a success, officials say, but the need for adoptions remains urgent as the shelter is still at capacity.
Here’s how CMPD AC&C says the community can help:
Adopt!
If you have been thinking of adding a furry friend to your home, now is the time to adopt and save a life!
Check out the animals for adoption on our website (check often, it updates every hour)
Cats, Kittens and Adult Dogs are all fee-waived when a donation is made to support shelter programs.
*A $10 pet license fee applies to Mecklenburg County ResidentsShare the urgent need!
If you are a social media user, please share our pleas on our social media channels. This makes a great impact.
Staycation!
If you don’t have time to have your own pet, consider participating on our Staycation program and foster a dog for a few days which will free up a kennel in the shelter and give the shelter dog a much-needed break from the kennel.
Daycation!
If you can’t bring a dog home, then opt for a Daycation, come and take a shelter dog for a day outing.
Foster!
Consider joining the foster program. Many kittens leaving the kitten nursery need a temporary home for a few weeks to be socialized and gain weight until they can be sterilized and put up for adoption.
Additional information on the foster program can be found here. Anyone wishing to adopt or get more information can do so by clicking here.
