All-American Game Of The Week Preview: West Charlotte And West Mecklenburg
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Westside of town will be the place to be come Friday night when rivals West Charlotte and West Mecklenburg square off.
The Lions week 1 game was pushed to Monday due to weather, but West Charlotte got the 28-8 win over Garinger. West Meck on the other hand will play in their season opener on Friday since their game against Rocky River was canceled.
The Hawks are led by first year head coach Nick Mata who previously served as offensive coordinator and helped lead West Meck to a 9-3 record last year.
Mata and West Charlotte’s head coach Josh Harris are close friends but say that gets put to the side this week as the Hawks look for their fourth straight win in the series.
“We just need playmakers to make plays,” said Mata. “Defense we have to tackle, and just do what West Meck does, play hard, play fast, play physical.”
“I know they have a great team,” said Harris. “Coach Mata is a great coach, so we definitely do respect them as coaches and players, but this is a new year and we’re going to win.”
Kick off is at 7pm at West Meck.
