Police Arrest Man Accused Of Breaking Into Fort Mill School, Stealing Equipment

FORT MILL, SC — The Fort Mill Police Department says a suspect accused of breaking into a local elementary school and stealing multiple items has been arrested.

Around 11:35pm on August 8th, police say Steven Dycus broke into Fort Mill Elementary and wondered around the school for several hours before taking off with four Chromebook computers, three Apple iPads and one Sony Handycam.

Dycus was captured on surveillance video inside the school, police say, and his image was distributed throughout the community.

On August 27th, a school staff member reportedly saw Dycus, who matched the suspect description, entering the Quick Trip on Highway 160 at Springfield Parkway and alerted police.

Responding officers spoke with Dycus, and say they located one of the stolen iPads in his bag during a consensual search. Dycus was taken into custody and search warrants were obtained for his home.

Police say the remaining stolen property was located and recovered.

Dycus is charged with Burglary-2nd Degree, Grand Larceny, and Receiving Stolen Goods.
