Wilson’s World: Previewing this Saturday’s 2019 Charlotte 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb

The 2019 Charlotte 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb is this Saturday, September 14th beginning at 8:15am.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – This Saturday the 9th annual Charlotte 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb will be held at the Duke Energy Building in Uptown Charlotte. Some of the firefighters and volunteers that will be unable to participate on Saturday were at the building this morning to take on the climb.  Wilson was with these men and women as they geared up and began and completed their climb.

The  Charlotte 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb is held each year to raise funds for the National Fallen Firefighters Association.  NFFA along with the FDNY raise awareness as well as funds to honor and support  the families of our  local fallen firefighters and the FDNY Counseling Services Unit. Fully geared up firefighters and supporters climb up the floors of the Duke Energy Building in Uptown.  The climbers will represent the 343 firefighters, 60 law enforcement and 10 EMS personnel who perished on September 11, 2001. Each participant will be climbing the equivalent of  the 110 floors of each twin tower.

The public is encouraged to come to the Duke Energy Center on Saturday to encourage the climbers.  Opening ceremony for the event begins at 8:15am.

Also being held this morning in Romare Bearden Park was the Flags of Remembrance Memorial which is held each year by the F.F. Steven Coakley Foundation .  The event was held this morning, but the flags will still be up in the park tonight for visitors to see.
