CMPD Investigating Deadly Friday Morning Accident, Victim Identified

CHARLOTTE, NC — CMPD is investigating after a man was hit and killed early Friday morning in west Charlotte.

Shortly after 6am, police say Tyrone Almonds, 59, was walking along Brice Street and attempted to cross Parkway Avenue when he was hit by a 2011 Nissan Rouge. Investigators say Almonds “darted out” in front of the vehicle in an area that was not marked or controlled for pedestrian crossing.

The vehicle reportedly pulled over and remained at the scene until officers arrived.

First responders say they found Almonds in the street when they arrived and pronounced him dead at the scene.

Police say Almonds was also wearing dark colored clothing when the accident occurred.

Speed and alcohol are not considered a factor for the driver. Police are still trying to determine whether the victim was impaired when the incident occurred.

This is an ongoing investigation.
